Biography

     Jae-Hyun Hong is a contemporary composer and piano improviser who infuses her unique imagination, emotion and philosophy in her musical expression. Born in Seoul, South Korea, she lived most of her life in her home city. She was influenced by the unique music cultures in South Korea, where the Korean traditional music and the Western style music coexist. She completed her Bachelor of Music in Classical Composition from the University of Suwon (USW) in South Korea with the university achievement award. At USW, she received a diverse musical training, studying both western music theory and that of Korean traditional music. After graduation from USW, she moved to Boston to study at New England Conservatory (NEC), and earned a master’s of Music in May 2014. At NEC, she studied with Kati Agócs for two years, and premiered her pieces at Tuesday Night New Music concert series.

 

     With these academic and professional experiences, in summer 2015, Jae-Hyun co-founded a new music organization with her composer colleagues based in South Korea. Running this new founded organization, she is pursuing more diverse musical experiences with the number of musicians around Seoul.
